I'm super close to my grampa, who is 88. In his earlier years he wrote a series of poems, which he is proud of, one for each month of the year. For his Christmas present for 2010 I wanted to surprise him by illustrating each poem and making a calendar for the family.
Well, I guess I bit off more than I could chew at the time because I only managed to finish 7 of the 13 pieces. I'll get the others done soon, but probably not in time for Christmas of '11!
This is a digital mock-up of the cover image for the calendar. It's one I haven't yet completed... mostly because all that quilling is going to take for-stinkin'-ever! There's a lot I've learned in just a year of practice, so I'm thinking the final pic is going to look a bit different than this.
This is such an amazing piece. It is so detailed and intricate. It took a second for me to read the "SONS" since the rest of the writing was bold and not part of the quilling, but this was very fun to look at. The colors and the changing of seasons through the swirl was very awesome! Thanks for sharing. I bet your grandfather loved it.
Thank you so much for your kind words and your insight! I have yet to actually make this digital draft into a paper-crafted piece, so I'll keep your comment in mind when I finally put it together.
Hi There! I've submitted your deviation to Art-Quilling [link] and would love if you checked out our amazing little group! We are constantly looking for artists to bring everyone inspiration for their paper crafts.
Happy Holidays!
